Good nutrition is a fundamental pillar of good health.  This is especially true for people who are living with cancer.  Whether you are undergoing chemotherapy or are five years past your original cancer diagnosis, diet can play a critical role on your path to wellness.

Making dietary changes can contribute to tissue healing, decreasing inflammation in the body, maintaining a healthy weight, and increasing energy.  Dr. Ashley Chauvin, ND works closely with her clients to tailor a nutritional plan that works for them.  There are many anti-cancer diets that claim to be beneficial – Gerson Diet Therapy, Macrobiotic, the Grape Cure, etc – and some of these may have value, but there is not a single diet that is right for everyone and for every cancer.

Dr. Ashley Chauvin, ND relies on the latest research to help inform the nutritional plans she creates for her patients.  She works closely with holistic nutritionists to create customized meal plans.

Adhering to a strict diet can also be very stressful.  Dr. Ashley Chauvin, ND helps her clients understand what elements of their nutritional plan are most important, so that they can make balanced decisions and not feel overwhelmed.

Research

The Women’s Healthy Eating and Living Study showed improvement in cancer outcomes for post-menopausal women not experiencing hot flashes.  A significant trend for fewer breast cancer events was observed among women who had the highest intake of vegetables, fruits, and fibre.

The Prostate Cancer Lifestyle Trial found that men who adopted a low-fat, plant-based diet, exercised and practised stress management were less likely to require conventional treatments including surgery and radiation.
